Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Geography, University of Parma, Dipartimento di Discipline Umanistiche, Sociali e delle Imprese Culturali (from 1 December 2016).

RESEARCH

Geography in terms of land planning and enhancement of historical and environmental heritage: transformations of urban, rural and coastal landscapes; protected areas; natural and cultural parks.

Theoretical reflection on iconographic representations: use of photographic-historical source in the construction of geographical knowledge.

Development of environmental, touristic and cultural resources in local area: experience gained following a long collaboration with local administrations in Genoa and La Spezia provinces.

History of the territory, of cartography and topography: research carried out in Italian and French archives; in particular for the period of transition between late Ancien Régime and the affirmation of the modern state in Europe (XVIII-XX centuries). For Liguria, Emilia and Trentino areas: studies concerning road infrastructures organization and hydraulic and agricultural arrangements. In this framework, to deepen institutional  and scientific contexts and cartographic production's techniques, were explored civil and military archives in Parma, Genoa, La Spezia, Modena, Mantua, Trento and Paris.

Travel and geographical representations: study of documents from 18th to 20th century with particular attention to the relationship between medicine and geography.

Theoretical and operative reflection on the functions and organization of regional and local Landscape Observatories, expected by the implementing rules of the European Landscape Convention of 2000.

He is currently engaged in research concerning the historical transformations of the representations (text, cartography, iconography etc.) of the Alpine mountains and the Emilian-Tuscan-Ligurian Apennines between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
