2002 Degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Parma with a thesis on functional studies on PLP dependent enzymes crystals characterized by microspectrophotometry.
2006 PhD at the University of Turin with a thesis on functional and structural studies on heme-proteins and enzymes in solution, in crystalline state and encapsulated in silica gel using spectroscopic techniques.
2004-2007 fellowship on hemoglobin and hemoglobin-based blood substitutes within the European founded project "Genomics and Blood Substitutes in the 21° Century Europe – EuroBloodSubstitutes".
From October 2008 to 2013 postdoctoral fellowship at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Parma, studying modified hemoglobins for the development of blood substitutes using biochemical, biophysical and proteomic techniques to investigate the correlation between blood substitute structural and functional properties and their therapeutic efficacy and adverse effects.
The main research activity is focused on functional and structural characterization of proteins, with a particular interest for heme proteins and enzymes, in solution and in the crystalline state, using spectroscopic techniques (spectrophotometry, spectrofluorimetry, microspectrophotometry, circular dichroism, rapid mixing stopped-flow kinetics, laser flash photolysis). He has also a strong experience in silica gel encapsulation of proteins as a tool to investigate protein structure-function relationship and to isolate single protein conformations for their fine characterization. He developed and assembled apparatus for spectroscopic studies on proteins and optimized assays for clinical biochemistry analyses and filed a patent on a haemolytic interference free amylase assay. He has a expertise in protein chemistry, including protein conjugation with polyethylene glycol and with fluorophores, with particular interest in the development of hemoglobin based blood substitutes.
From January 2014 to December 2017 Assistant Professor in Applied Physics, Department of Neurosciences, University of Parma.
From January 2018 is Associate Professor in Applied Physics, Department of Medicine and Surgery, University of Parma
He was winner of the young investigator award in 2008 for the "6TH CURRENT ISSUES ON BLOOD SUBSTITUTE RESEARCH", October 23-25 2008, Keio University, Tokyo, (Japan).
His research activity is documented by co-authoring in 55 publications on peer-reviewed journals, 4 book chapters, more than 50 conference proceedings and 1 patent.
