Presentazione

The PI is associate professor in Organic Chemistry (SSD CHIM/06) at the host institution since

31/12/2018. Previously, he served as assistant professor (rtd-a) at the same university for five

years. The PI is member of the Chemistry, Life Sciences and Environmental sustainability

department, is responsible of didactic courses for the bachelor degree in Biology, the master

degree in Chemistry and in Industrial Chemistry and the PhD school in Chemical Sciences (ca 150 hours/15 cfu per year) and is the Coordinator of the PhD School in Chemical Sciences.

In the last ten years the PI has been tutor of ca 30 bachelor and master students, supervised 13 PhD theses and

7 post-docs. 

The PI has been actively engaged in the last few years into several research projects involving

also entities beyond its host institution, both public and private. He has been the PI of two

research contracts with private companies and sporadically provides consulting on structural

identification of organics. Furthermore, the research and training duties carried out by the PI

contributed to the development of several new students and young researches, who for a sizeable

majority are still in the R&D sector, both in academia and for private companies. With respect to

the scientific community, both national and international, the activity of the PI is witnessed by the

ample and regular scientific output as corresponding author, in particular on catalytic synthesis,

on the best international journals and the most respected organic chemistry ones. The

acknowledgement of this contribution is further showed by his routine activity as referees for the

main international editors (ACS, Wiley, RSC, average of 15/year), from the junior prize for the

Italian Chemical Society for Methods in Organic Chemistry (2017) and by 8 invitation as speaker

in international conferences.

Research areas

The group is a leading unit in the investigation of metallic aromaticity, a peculiar chemical bond early observed in the XXIst century. In this field, thanks to the skills in synthesis and reactivity of the group, it has been recently developed one of the most efficient catalytic system of the selective semireduction of alkynes, a key-target in pre preparation of high value organic compounds. The group is also active in cascade reactions, where polyfunctional starting substrates are selectively converted in complex molecular architectures in a quantitative atomic efficiency. Currently, two PhD students and the PI are involved in the activities described above, that find a wide range of application ranging from the synthesis in catalysis to the investigation of the reaction mechanisms via a combined experimental/computational approach.
