Stefano Biffani is a Researcher (III level) at CNR–IBBA and, since 2025, a Researcher/Joint Chair at the University of Parma. He has held several Visiting Scientist/Professor positions at NC State University (USA) and the Federal University of Ceará (Brazil). Previously, he served as Head of the Research Office at the Italian Breeders Association and worked as a geneticist and biostatistician in major national livestock institutions.
He holds a PhD in Animal Science from the University of Florence, with extensive international training in animal breeding and genetics in Brazil. He completed advanced courses in statistics, machine learning, multivariate analysis, Bayesian methods, and animal genomics at institutions such as Stanford (online), Harvard (online), Iowa, Valencia, and Interbull.
His scientific output includes 84 Scopus-indexed publications, 1531 citations, and an h-index of 21. He teaches and lectures in advanced training schools and university courses on Statistical Learning, Deep Learning, and data analysis with R.
He participates in several national projects on animal genomics, biodiversity, sustainability, and genetic improvement (SHEEP&GOAT, I-BEEF 2, BIG, SHEEP4CHEESE, Beenomix), focusing on genomics, advanced phenotyping, animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and genetic diversity management.
He has extensive experience in managing phenotypic and genomic datasets, statistical modelling, genetic evaluations, SNP-chip analyses, and precision livestock techniques. His language skills include English (C1) and Spanish (intermediate).
He is recipient of the EAAP Best Poster Award (2022) and the 1998 Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award from the North-eastern Brazilian Society of Animal Science.
