Lorenzo Cipelli is a PhD student at VisLab (an Ambarella Inc. company), where his research focuses on multimodal perception for autonomous driving. His work investigates deep learning approaches for sensor fusion and calibration, with particular emphasis on integrating heterogeneous sensors such as LiDAR, radar, and cameras to improve the robustness and generalization of perception systems. His supervisor is Professor Massimo Bertozzi.

As part of his doctoral research, starting from March 2026 he is a Visiting PhD Student with the Intelligent Vehicles (IV) Group at TU Delft under the supervision of Professor Holger Caesar. His current research explores calibration-agnostic feature fusion strategies based on 3D vision Foundation Models, aiming to develop perception methods that generalize across different sensor configurations and operating environments.

Before starting his PhD, Lorenzo worked as a research engineer intern at VisLab, where he developed deep learning algorithms for multimodal sensor calibration, including LiDAR-camera and radar-camera calibration. This experience naturally evolved into his current research interests at the intersection of 3D computer vision, sensor fusion, and autonomous systems. During the internship his academic supervisor was Paolo Medici, while on the VisLab side being supervised by Filippo D'Addeo, Emanuele Ghelfi and Fabjan Kallasi

Lorenzo received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Engineering from the University of Parma.
