Born in 1951, in February 1976 he graduated cum laude with a degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Bologna.
The first of August 1980 he becomes researcher in Technical Physics, at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bologna. On 18 May 1987 he took up the position of Associate Professor of Technical Physics at the same Faculty.
From 1 November 1994 he is full professor of Industrial Technical Physics, in service at the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Parma.
In the academic years 1997-1999 and 1999-2001 he is a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Parma, also covering the function of committee chairman.
From 30 October 2000 to 21 December 2003 he was Rector's delegate for "Training system, post-graduate training, accreditation, doctorates".
In the three-year academic period 2001-2004 he was project leader of the CampusOne Project, promoted by CRUI.
From December 22nd 2003 to March 25th 2010 he was Vice Rector of the University of Parma, with responsibility for Building.
From February 2013 to October 31, 2016 he was chair of the Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
From 30 September 2016 to 31 October 2017 he was Rector’s delegate for relations with the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI).
Professor of Technical Physics for the Degree Course in Mechanical Engineering, of Energy Efficiency for the Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Sources for the Master's Degree in Architecture, in previous years he has been teaching of Thermal Plants, of Applied Thermofluidodynamics and of Thermofluidodynamics Applied to Fire Safety Design.
He is author of over 140 scientific publications, both at national and international level, mainly on the issues of heat transfer and energy, in civil and industrial fields.
He directed research groups; he has presided over numerous commissions: call for tenders, competition, professional qualification. He has carried out technical consultancy in many civil and criminal proceedings. He has participated in commission for testing in both civil and industrial field.
He is a founding member of Energy Efficiency Research, a spin-off company of the University of Parma operating in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, and since May 2012 he chairs the Board of Directors.
He is a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Bologna Institute, Class of Physical Sciences - Section of Technical Sciences.
