Gianfranco Lombardo was born in Catanzaro on December 25, 1992. After obtaining his Scientific High School diploma from "Filoalo" Scientific High School in Crotone (KR) in 2011, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Computer, Electronics, and Telecommunications Engineering (2014) and his Master's degree in Computer Engineering (2017), both from the University of Parma. He is registered with Section A of the Engineers' Association (Information Sector) of the Province of Crotone (No. 843).

In February 2021, he obtained his Ph.D. in Information Technology from the Department of Engineering and Architecture at the University of Parma, where he conducted research on knowledge extraction from semi-structured data using Deep Learning techniques, Machine Learning, Multi-Agent Systems, and Network Science, with applications to data from documents and social media (texts and social graphs). Supervisor: Prof. Agostino Poggi.

From August to December 2019, he was a Visiting Researcher at the Center for Applied Optimization at the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, Gainesville (University of Florida). In the United States, he conducted research on the application of Deep Learning and Natural Language Processing techniques to the analysis of publicly traded companies' annual financial reports. This activity was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Panos M. Pardalos.

From November 2020 to November 2022, he was a Research Fellow at the Department of Engineering and Architecture, funded by the regional project SUPER (Supercomputing Unified Platform). During this period, he conducted research on the Predictive Maintenance of LGVs using unsupervised deep-learning techniques. Supervisor: Prof. Stefano Cagnoni.

During the academic year 2021/2022, he was an Adjunct professor for the course "Big Data and Business Intelligence"/"Introduction to Artificial Intelligence" for the Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems Engineering at the University of Parma.

He has worked professionally as a computer consultant specializing in Artificial Intelligence topics (2023) and as a Technical Consultant of Party (CTP) in the legal field for software development issues (Genoa Court - 2022/2023).

Since July 2023, he has served as a Fixed-Term Researcher (RTD-A) at the Department of Engineering and Architecture at the University of Parma.
