Enrico Prandi, Dr. Arch. PhD
1969 - Born in Mantua
1998 - He graduated in Architecture with a first-class honours degree from the Faculty of Architecture, Polytechnic of Milan under Prof. Guido Canella.
1998/2005 - He carried out research work as expert in the field at the architectonic design workshops held by Prof. Guido Canella at the Faculty of Civil Architecture in Milan – Bovisa
1998/2005 - He as a member of the research group at the Sintesi Finale workshop “Architettura e Città (Architecture and the City)” at the same faculty headed by Guido Canella.
1998/2005 - With the same group, he participated in various co-funded research projects, of particular note: “Il Sistema dei Parchi Tecnologici e il Centro Direzionale di Napoli (The Technology Park System and the Executive Centre of Naples)”, CNR, Italian National Research Council (2000), “Funzione e Figura delle Architetture Pubbliche e Servizi per lo “Sviluppo” Sostenibile delle Aree Metropolitane: Firenze, Milano, Napoli, Mestre (Function and Figure in Public Architecture and Services for Sustainable “Development” of the Metropolitan Areas: Florence, Milan, Naples, Mestre)”, MURST, Ministry for Education, University and Research (2000), “Unità Urbane Insediative ad Autosufficienza Energetica – Integrazione Fotovoltaica nell’Edilizia (Energy Self-sufficient Residential Urban Units – Integration of Photoelectric Cells in Building)”, CNR, Italian National Research Council – Italian Ministery for the Environment, (2002), “Rifondazione Insediativa in Rapporto ai Flussi Migratori nel Bacino del Mediterraneo. 1999 - He has been carrying out research work as expert in the field at the architectonic design workshops held by Prof. Carlo Quintelli at the Faculty of Architecture in Parma, dealing with architectonic themes linked to the urban and territorial environments of the western Emilia region of northern Italy and taking part in various roles in research, workshops, seminars and publishing of the Cittaemilia group into the research and didactics of the project.
Of particular note is his collaboration in producing the didactic CD called “Architettura, Città, Territorio. Il Sistema Insediativo dell’Emilia Occidentale (Architecture, City, Territory. The Settlement System of Western Emilia)”, (2003), the coordination of the research work , “Fidenza: Scenari del Territorio (Fidenza: Territorial Scenarios)”. (2003), coordination of the research work “SS9 Via Emilia: l’Infrastruttura come Strumento di Generazione Insediativa. Conoscenza, Salvaguardia e Valorizzazione della Strada Consolare, tra Paesaggio Urbano e Rurale, da Piacenza a Bologna (State Highway 9, the Via Emilia: Infrastructure as an Instrument to Generate Settlement. Knowledge, Safeguarding and Enhancement of the Consular Road, between Urban and Rural Landscape, from Piacenza to Bologna) ”. Emilia Romagna Region, (2004).
2000-2003 - In 2000, he won a post in open competition and in 2003 became Doctor of Research, in the XV cycle, at the IUAV - Venice University Institute of Architecture taking his qualification with a thesis on the relationship between architecture/city in the case of Mantua (supervisor Guido Canella, examiner Luciano Semerani).
2002/2005 - He was Professor in charge of Architectonic Composition and since 2006 has been a University Researcher (ICAR 14 – Architectonic and Urban Composition) at the Faculty of Architecture in Parma where he carries out research and teaching work in the chairs of both Architectonic Design and Theories of Contemporary Architectonic Research.
2003 - He was among the organisers of the exhibition, “ARCHITETTURA/EUROPA 1 - 2003” (Architecture/Europe 1–2003) – featuring themes and leading figures from contemporary architecture, as well as meetings with masters of Italian architecture from the generation of the 1930s (Carlo Aymonino, Guido Canella, Vittorio Gregotti, Luciano Semerani, Alessandro Anselmi, Giorgio Grassi, Aimaro Isola).
2004 - He collaborated in organising the exhibition “Guido Canella. Sulla Composizione Architettonica e sui Progetti (Guido Canella: On Architectonic Composition and Projects)”, held at the Faculty of Civil Architecture in Milan – Bovisa.
2004 - He was among the creators of the Festival dell’Architettura (Festival of Architecture) of Parma, a non-profit-making show whose objective is the organization and circulation of cultural events linked to architecture, and also among the organisers of the first edition of “Eteroarchitettura”, (Parma, 20-26 September 2004), which featured exhibitions, workshops, seminars, debates and competitions. Within this manifestation he was the editor of the reviews and organiser of the show “Disputatio. Progetti Controversi, Dibattiti su Temi Caldi dell’Architecture (Disputatio. Controversial Projects, Debates on Burning Issues in Architecture)”.
2005 - He was the coordinator of the second edition of Parma’s Festival dell’Architettura, entitled “Architettura, Ricchezza e Povertà (Architecture, Wealth and Poverty)”, within which he was curator of the exhibition and organizer of the round table, “Italia 2011. Grandi Progetti della Trasformazione Urbana (Italy 2011. Grand Projects for Urban Transformation)”.
2005 - Editorial coordinator of Festival Architettura Edizioni, a publishing house that produces books of international interest, for whom since 2008 he has been editor of the series entitled Architettura/Composizioni.
2006 - He was coordinator of the third edition of Parma’s Festival dell’Architettura entitled “Architettura di Rara Bellezza (Architecture of Rare Beauty)” and supervisor of the exhibitions, "Jo Coenen. Dall'Urbanistica al Dettaglio Architettonico (Jo Coenen. From Town-planning to the Architectonic Detail) (Parma), and "Bolles+Wilson. Progetti per la Città (Bolles+Wilson. Projects for the City)" (Modena) as well as organiser of the associated meetings with Jo Coenen and Peter Wilson.
2007 - On the occasion of the exhibition on Jean Prouvé, the exhibition, "Italia 2011. Grandi Progetti della Trasformazione Urbana" was put on once more at the Centro Internazionale di Arte e Cultura at Palazzo Té in Mantua.
2007 - within the fourth edition of Parma’s Festival dell’Architettura entitled “Pubblico Paesaggio (Public Landscape)” he was in charge of the research project, “L'Europa del Paesaggio. Progetti di Paesaggio dalle Regioni Europee (The Europe of Landscape. Landscape Projects from the Regions of Europe)”, as well as organiser of the study day of the same name, split into two sections, “Prove di Paesaggio (Landscape Trials)” and “I paesaggi dell’“Identità” Europea. Progetto di Architettura e Convenzione Europea del Paesaggio (The Landscapes of European “Identity”. The Architectural Project and the European Landscape Convention)”.
2008 - as the final outcome of the research work, he organised the exhibition and round table, “Il Paesaggio nell’Architettura. Congegni Compositivi e Progetto di Paesaggio Europeo (Landscape in Architecture. Compositional Schemes and a European Landscape Project)”.
2008 - He has been chairman of the Landscape Commission of the Municipality of Mantua.
2009 – He is delegated for the Faculty of Architecture in Parma in the european program of cultural exchanges LLP – Erasmus.
2009-2010 - Coordinator of the fifth edition of the Festival of Architecture entitled Community/Architecture, 2009-2010 where he created and supervised an International Call for Papers on Community/Architecture, (which attracted over 130 participants from 10 Nations) and coordinated university workshop research on the project, Declinazioni Architettoniche della Esperienza Insediativa involving 5 universities in Italy (Milan, Bari, Alghero, Rome, Parma), plus 4 in Europe (Paris, Strasbourg, Lubjana, Barcelona), and 3 in America (Valparaiso, Chile, Santiago del Chile, La Plata, Argentina).
2010 - He has been Editor of FAmagazine, an online Architectural magazine (ISSN 2039-0491) with articles on the themes of architecture and the city.
2011 – He worked as coordinator (with Lamberto Amistadi) on the sixth edition of the Festival of Architecture: European City Architecture. Project Structure Image where he supervised the inter-university research into the architecture project Europe/Italy: The Architectural Project in European Schools which involved 7 European Universities, (Ankara, Porto, San Sebastian, Thessaloniki, Barcelona, Maastricht, Munster) and 4 Italian ones (Turin, Parma, Naples, Palermo). He organised, supervised, coordinated and participated in the day-long Seminar of the same name.
2011 – He took part in the convention “Parma First Food Valley Symposium” with a talk on “The Architectural Icon in the Petite Capitale of Food Valley” published in the Acts. (edited by Carlo Quintelli, FAEdizioni 2011).
2011 – Member of the inter-university research group formed by lecturers from the Universities of Parma, Ferrara, Bologna, and Reggio-Modena, whose project “Designing the Constructed: Architectural Strategies for the Compact City” was financed by a Research Doctorate from the Emilia Romagna Region’s Global Grant Spinner 2013 programme to develop innovative ideas and projects, along with financing from the European Social Fund.
2011 – Amongst the promoters of the exhibition and participant at the Round Table “European Identity in Architecture” selected to be part of the Festa dell’Europa in Parma organised by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority with HQ in Parma), the Municipality of Parma, the Province of Parma, the European Commission – Milan Office, Europass and the University of Parma.
2011 – Member of the Board of Lecturers for the PhD in Form and Structure of Architecture (PhD School of Engineering and Architecture) at the University of Parma.
2011 - He has been member of the Scientific Committee of the Magazine DC of the Department of Architectural Composition of ETSAB, (Escuela Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona) ‒ Universidad Politecnica de Catalunya.
He has published essays in national and international architectural journals.
He has participated in different national and international competitions, gaining various prizes and recognition. In particular, in 2003 he was winner of the Centocittà competition for the recovery of the water towers of Budrio and putting them back into operation, along with a multicultural centre featuring a museum, conference room and poly-functional spaces. In 2005 he won the open competition for the redevelopment of Piazza Garibaldi in Pergine Valsugana and was a finalist in the open competition for Piazza Prampolini in Reggio Emilia.
