Adrian Lutey graduated in Mechanical Engineering with First Class Honours at the University of Western Australia in April 2008. He subsequently worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Norman Disney & Young in Perth from January 2008 until December 2009.
In June 2013, he completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bologna with a thesis entitled High-Speed Laser Processing of Thin Single and Multi-Layer Films. Over the period 2013-2016, Adrian worked as a post-doc at the University of Bologna, focusing primarily on laser cutting of Li-ion battery electrodes, laser profiling of grinding wheels and laser hardening.
In 2017, Adrian became Assistant Professor in manufacturing technology at the University of Parma, continuing his work in the field of laser materials processing. As part of the Horizon 2020 project TRESCLEAN, his research focused primarily on the production of superhydrophic and antibacterial surfaces via ultrashort pulsed laser texturing and electrochemical processes.
In 2022, Adrian became coordinator of teaching and research activity in the field of manufacturing technology at the Unversity of Parma. In the same year, he became scientific lead of the Horizon Europe project GIGAGREEN and co-lead of the Horizon Europe project OPTIMAL for the University of Parma. His research over subsequent years focused on modelling laser texturing of Li-ion battery electrodes and developing machine-learning algorithms for the optimisation of greyscale laser lithography.
As of December 2024, Adrian is Associate Professor at the University of Parma, continuing research in the fields of laser materials processing and machine-learning applied to manufacturing process optimisation.
Adrian is currently Associate Editor of the scientific journal Progress in Additive Manufacturing and Senior Editorial Board Member (Engineering) of Discover Applied Sciences.
