Other activities

2004-present
Secretary of Subcommission on Neogene Stratigraphy (SNS) of the International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS), International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS).

2001-2007
Participant in the Working Group of the Subcommission on Neogene Stratigraphy (International Commission on Stratigraphy, International Union of Geological Sciences) for the definition of the Global Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) of Tortonian and Serravallian stages.

Main research interests:
high resolution biostratigraphy, integrated with cyclostratigraphy and magnetostratigraphy, and biochronology of Miocene planktonic foraminiferal assemblages from Mediterranean and oceanic areas; paleoceanography, paleoclimatology and paleoecology.

Ongoing research:
high resolution biostratigraphy of Mediterranean and open ocean successions for defining the Global Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) of the Langhian Stage; biostratigraphy of Northen Apennines seep carbonate successions; relationships between foraminiferal assemblages and sedimentary ciclicty from deep marine Mediterranean successions.
