- high resolution biostratigraphy, integrated with cyclostratigraphy and magnetostratigraphy, and biochronology of planktonic foraminiferal assemblages from Mediterranean and oceanic areas focussed on Oligo-Miocene boundary and Miocene;
- high resolution biostratigraphy of Mediterranean and open ocean successions aimed to define the Global Stratotype Section and Points (GSSPs)of the Miocene stages;
- paleoceanography, paleoclimatology and paleoecology of Miocene Mediterranean and open ocean successions;
- relationships between foraminiferal assemblages and sedimentary ciclicty from deep marine Mediterranean and open ocean successions;
- relationships between foraminiferal assemblages and sedimentary facies.
