Graduate in Physics in 1986 at the University of Parma, Italy, presenting a thesis on the biomedical applications of the Moessbauer effect.

From May 1986 to February 1988 works at the Institute of Physical Sciences, University of Parma, continuing the research started in the thesis. He focuses on Mössbauer Spectroscopy applied to the study of hematologic diseases, in particular, lymphoblastic leukemia, myeloid leukemia and Hodgkin's lymphoma.
During this period, in parallel with the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear plant, he starts collaborating with the Health Physics Division of the University of Parma. He is interested in problems associated with the protection from ionizing radiation and participates in studies on the effects of radioactive contamination in farm animals.

Since September 1987 he is registered (n. 1120) in the national register of Qualified Expert for radiation protection with second grade abilitation. From January 1, 1989, by Rectoral decree he is a member and Qualified Expert (EQ) of the Health physics Division of the University of Parma.

From March 1, 1988, to March 14, 1989, is in charge at the Institute of Physical Sciences as Technical Assistant and from March 15, 1989, to July 31, 1991, as Technical Officer. During the same period he continues to work on physics applied to medicine extending the topics of interest, and starts new collaborations in different fields of physics of matter with other italian and foreign universities.

In 1990, at the LXXXVIII National Congress of the Italian Physical Society (SIF), receives one of the awards for young graduates in Physics.

From August 1, 1991, is Researcher at the Institute of Physical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Parma.
From August 1, 1994 he is Confirmed Researcher at the University of Parma, Faculty of Medicine.

From March 1, 2000 is Associate Professor of Biomedical Physics (FIS/07 SSD) at the University of Parma, Faculty of Medicine.
From March 1, 2003 he is Confirmed Associate Professor of Biomedical Physics at the Faculty of Medicine.

During the period 2004-2005 he is Coordinator of the Physical Division of the Department of Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine.

Since 2000 he is Head of the Mössbauer Spectroscopy Laboratory of the Physics Section.

In the period 2004 - 2005 he is Coordinator of the Physics Section of the Department of Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Parma.

In the period 2010-2012 he holds the role of Deputy Director of the Department of Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Parma.

In the period 2017-2019 he has been President of the Degree Course in Techniques of Medical Radiology, Imaging and Radiotherapy.

From 2019 he is President of the Master's degree Course in Nursing and Midwifery Sciences and of First level Master'degree in
Management for coordinating functions in the health professions area.
