Annamaria Cucinotta is a Full Professor of the scientific disciplinary sector IINF-02/A – ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS at the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Parma.
She is currently the coordinator for UNIPR of the Horizon Europe Project OPTIMAL (Automated Maskless Laser Lithography Platform For First Time Right Mixed Scale Patterning), from 2022 to 2027.
She is the head of the "Laser and Fiber Optics Laboratory" at the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Parma.
Annamaria Cucinotta was the national coordinator of the PRIN 2020 project Yellow FLiCkER (Yellow Fiber Laser system for the treatment of ocular disordERs), from 2022 to 2025.
She was also the coordinator for UNIPR of the project "HOCQUS - Hollow-core fibers for Optical Communication QUantum Sources PNRR - Mission 4 "Education and Research" - Component 2 - Investment 1.1 "Fund for the National Research Program and Projects of Relevant National Interest (PRIN)" - PRIN 2022 Call - ERC Sector PE7, from 2023 to 2026.
She participated in the "Triboletto" project within the PNRR MUR Project - M4C2 - Investment 1.3 - "RESearch and innovation on future Telecommunications systems and networks, to make Italymore smART (RESTART)", from 2024 to 2025.
She participated in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), Extended Partnership 04: Quantum Science and Technology (PE 0023), NATIONAL QUANTUM SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE, From 2022 to 2026
Since September 2020, she has been President of the Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) SMILE (Smart Manufacturing Innovation Lean Excellence).
In 2020, she was Chair of ICOP2020 (Italian Conference on Optics and Photonics).
From 2014 to 2019, she was an Associate Professor at the Department of Information Engineering, then the Department of Engineering and Architecture, at the University of Parma.
From 2002 to 2014, she was a Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Parma.
A. Cucinotta's teaching activity, which began in 1998, has included courses in the field of electromagnetic fields, from the basic principles of electromagnetism to photonics, from antennas to fiber optical sensors, from photonic devices for telecommunications to the use of photonic technologies in the automotive sector.
A. Cucinotta's scientific activity, which began in 1995, it has focused primarily on the experimental characterization and design of specialty optical fibers and fiber-based photonic devices for telecommunications, industrial applications, and sensors.
Annamaria Cucinotta has co-authored over 260 scientific articles published in international journals and presented at major international conferences.
From 2015 to 2019, she was Associate Editor of the IEEE Photonic Journal.
She is a member of the CORIFI (Coordination of Research and Innovation in Photonics Italy) Board of Directors, representing the Research, Education, and Training working group, as a founding member of DNAPhone Srl.
From 2019 to 2023, she was President of the Association "Alumi e Amici dell'Università di Parma."
From 2014 to 2017, she was the Rector's Delegate of the University of Parma for the establishment of the Alumni Association of the University of Parma.
From 2014 to 2025, she was a founding partner and scientific advisor of the innovative start-up DNAPhone S.r.l.
From 2007 to 2024, she was a founding partner of the academic spin-off Net Integra Consulting S.r.l.
From 2007 to 2012, she was coordinator of the Socrates Erasmus program for the Department of Engineering. Information Technology.
From 2007 to 2010, she served as an expert reviewer for the European Commission under Priority 2, Information Society Technologies.
In January 1999, she received her PhD in Information Technologies, defending a doctoral thesis entitled "Modeling and Experimental Characterization of Rare-Earth Doped Optical Amplifiers."
