Annamaria Cucinotta is full professor at Department of Engineering and Architecture, University of Parma.

She received the Laurea (cum laude) degree in Physics, and the Ph.D. degree in Information Technology from Università di Parma, Parma, Italy, in 1995 and 1999, respectively. From 2003 she was assistant and then associate professor with the Faculty of Engineering, and from 2019 she is full professor of “Electromagnetic Fields”. She also teaches in the framework of MUNER (Motor vehicle UNiversity of Emilia Romagna).
She is in charge of the “Laboratory of Photonics Components” at the Department of Engineering and Architecture.
The main research interests of A. Cucinotta include fiber lasers, photonic crystal fibers also called microstructured fibers, multicore fibers and amplifiers, biosensors and numerical methods for electromagnetic field analysis. Her research bridges from optical sciences to material engineering, with particular emphasis on rare-earth doped fibers for amplifiers and lasers.
Cucinotta's work is published in over 270 archival journal publications and presented at international conferences. A. Cucinotta co-authored the books "Photonic Crystal Fiber Properties and Applications " (Springer, 2007). She is also author of the e-book chapter " Photonic Crystal Fiber: Theory and Fabrication", (Bentham Science Publishers, 2011).
She is a member of the EU Photonics21 Work Group 7 (Research, Education and training), fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and of the Italian Society of Electromagnetism (SIEM).
She was Associate Editor of IEEE Photonic Journal, and she is currently Associate Editor of Optical Fiber Technology. She acts as a technical program committee member for many international conferences. She was the chair of Italian Conference of Optics and Photonics (ICOP2020). She is the coordinator of the PRIN2020 Research Project Yellow FLiCkER (Yellow Fiber Laser System for the treatment of oCular disordERs), she is the local coordinator of the Horizon Europe Project OPTIMAL (Automated Maskless Laser Lithography Platform for First Time Right Mixed Scale Patterning), she is the local coordinator of the PRIN2022 Research Project HOCQUS (Hollow-core fibers for Optical Communication QUantum Sources).
From 2019 to 2022 she was the President of the Alumni Association of the University of Parma.
From September 2020 she is the President of the Smart Manufacturing Innovation center for Lean Excellence – Digital Innovation Hub (SMILE-DIH).
She is cofounder of the spin-off Net Integra Consulting and scientific advisor and cofounder of the innovative start-up DNAPHONE.
The h-index is 27, the citation number is 2970, according to scopus.
