MATTIA IOTTI
Born in Parma (1974).
Classical secondary school diploma (1993).
Degree in Economics (1998), Faculty of Economics, University of Parma.
Advanced course in "Managing the food distribution channels" (1999), Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Zaragoza.
PhD in Economics of Agri-food Systems of the Mediterranean Basin (2003), University of Parma, 15th Cycle.
Research grant (24 months) entitled Analysis of the Management Efficiency of Pork Processing Companies, Department of Veterinary Science, University of Parma (2015).
National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Associate Professor in the disciplinary field 13/B4 – Economics of Financial Intermediaries and Corporate Finance (2013).
National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Associate Professor in the disciplinary field 07/A1 – Agricultural Economics and Appraisal (2018).
Adjunct Professor in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Agricultural and Agri-food Economics, Project Evaluation, and Corporate Finance for Italian and international students (Master’s level), in the Departments of Economics and Management, Engineering and Architecture, and Veterinary Science at the University of Parma, since the 2005/2006 academic year. Since 2017/2018, for six academic years, he has taught the Master’s course Economic Evaluation of Plans and Projects in English.
Fixed-term Researcher (Type B) (2022) and subsequently Associate Professor (2025) in the disciplinary field "AGRI-01/A – Agricultural, Food Economics and Rural Appraisal" at the Department of Veterinary Science, University of Parma.
He has participated in European research projects (Eurotools, Horizon 2020), CNR-coordinated research (Ali-Medi), and PRIN projects in the fields of agri-food economics, project and plan evaluation, and performance analysis of agricultural and agri-food firms.
Member of the working group drafting the document Principles for Drafting Recovery Plans (AIDEA – Italian Academy of Business Economics; APRI – Association of Business Recovery Professionals; OCRI – Observatory for Corporate Crisis and Recovery) from 2015 to 2017.
Member of the Commission for Procedures and Requirements to Support Accountants (Adaptation of Technical Rules and Guidelines) of the National Association of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts.

He conducts research in agri-food economics, focusing on corporate finance, financial statement analysis, performance and strategy, business valuation, strategic planning, the preparation and validation of business and financial plans, management efficiency, short- and long-term cost assessment, regional development, gastronomy and catering. His research interests also include corporate crisis and recovery, corporate fraud, and bankruptcy crimes. He adopts a multidisciplinary approach, exploring the intersections between Agri-food Economics and other disciplines such as logic, physics, behavioural sciences, medicine, organisational theory, history, and sociology.
He has worked in international cooperation projects, carrying out on-site audits (2005) of the accounts of the Wamba Hospital (Kenya).
He regularly holds public lectures and outreach events aimed at professionals, entrepreneurs and managers, students, and the wider public within the University’s Third Mission framework, promoting knowledge in management, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, and turnaround in the agri-food sector.
