Personale docente

At present Michele Zazzi is full professor in Urban and Regional Planning at the Department of Engineering and Architecture at the University of Parma, Italy.

He is doctor of Civil Engineering and holds the Ph.D in Urban and Regional Planning from Department of Architecture and Spatial Planning, University of Bologna, Italy. From 1999 to 2001 he attended post doctoral studies on landscape and environmental planning at Department of Civil Engineering, University of Parma, Italy. From 2004 to 2007 he was researcher in Urban Planning and Technique at the Department of Architecture and Spatial Planning, University of Bologna.

He taught “Town Planning Technique” at the University of Bologna since academic year 2004-2005 until 2006-2007 and “Analysis of urban and regional systems” at University of Parma since academic year 2003-2004 until academic year 2006-2007. At University of Parma he has been teaching “Urban Planning and Design” at the Faculty of Architecture since academic year 2007-2008.

He has been the Programme Coordinator of the Second Cycle Degree (MSC) in "Architecture and City Sustainability" since 2017 to 2023.

He is the Programme Coordinator of the Professional Master in "Urban Regeneration" of the University of Parma. He is also a member of the Doctorate Board of the Doctorate Course in “Civil Engineering and Architecture” of the University of Parma.

He has been the Italian Coordinator of the Protocol of international cooperation for educational and scientific purposes between the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the University of Parma since 2019. He has been the Italian Coordinator of the Protocol of international cooperation for educational and scientific purposes between the Urals State Forest Engineering University and the University of Parma since 2007 to 2012.

He is member of the Italian Institute of Urban Planners, INU (since 1994) and of the Italian Society of Urban Planners, SIU (since 2001). He is also member of EUWATER, an interdisciplinary network of European scientists working on water issues. He is the author of about one hundred and forty scientific publications (2023).

His most recent book is: Città in contrazione. Modelli interpretativi per ambiti urbani di piccole e medie dimensioni in Italia dal 1990 al 2016, Maggioli Editore, Santarcangelo di Romagna (RN), 2019 (with B. Caselli e P. Ventura). In 2004 he published the first Italian report about national river basin planning (second edition in 2012).

His research mainly focuses on: urban regeneration, adaptation to climate change and quality of public space in urban settlements; bike and pedestrian planning; environmental, landscape and river basin management and planning.
