At present Michele Zazzi is Associate Professor in Urban and Regional Planning at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Land Engineering and Architecture at the University of Parma, Italy. He is Doctor of Civil Engineering and holds the Ph.D in Regional and Urban Planning from Department of Architecture and Spatial Planning, University of Bologna, Italy. From 1999 to 2001 he attended post doctoral studies on landscape and environmental planning at Department of Civil Engineering, University of Parma, Italy. From 2004 to 2007 he was Researcher in Urban Planning and Technique at the Department of Architecture and Spatial Planning, University of Bologna. He taught “Town Planning Technique” at the University of Bologna since academic year 2004/2005 until 2006/2007 and “Analysis of urban and regional systems” at University of Parma since academic year 2003/2004 until academic year 2006/2007. At University of Parma he has been teaching “Urban planning and design” at the Faculty of Architecture since academic year 2007/2008 and "Environmental Planning" at the Faculty of Natural Science since academic year 2010/2011. He is also a member of the Scientific Board of the Master in "Applied Coastal Sciences" of the University of Parma. He is a member of the Doctorate Board of the Doctorate Course in “Forms and Structures in Architecture” of the University of Parma. He is the Italian Coordinator of the Protocol of international cooperation for educational and scientific purposes between the Urals State Forest Engineering University and the University of Parma since 2007. He is member of the Italian Institute of Urban Planners, INU (since 1994) and of the Italian Society of Urban Planners, SIU (since 2001). He is also member of EUWATER, an interdisciplinary network of European scientists working on water issues. He is the author of about ninety scientific publications. His most recent book is "Villaggi rur-urbani. Elementi di autosostennibilità edilizia e insediativa, Maggioli Editore, Rimini, 2012. In 2004 he published the first Italian report about national river basin planning (II edition in 2012). His research mainly focuses on: digital archives of urban planning instruments and related documents; structural and strategic planning; landscape and river basin management and planning; participatory processes in environmental planning and management; quality of public space in urban settlements.
