About

Since 2023 I’m Full Professor at the Food and Drug Department of the University of Parma. Myr research is focused on dermal, transdermal and ocular drug delivery. In particular my research lines concern: 1) set-up of ev-vivo models for the study of drug retention and permeation across biological barriers and, in particular, mucous membranes, ocular tissues and skin; 2) the preparation, characterization and evaluation of innovative drug delivery systems (microemulsions, nano and micro carriers, micelles, polymeric films); 3) technique for the enhancement of drug absorption across biological tissues (iontophoresis, nanovectors, chemical enhancers, cell penetrating peptides). The final aim is the realization of drug formulations characterized by high efficacy, lower side effects and an high patient’s compliance, in particular for the treatment of diseases affecting the eye, mucosal membranes and the skin.

Research areas

My research is focused on drug delivery across biological barriers such as skin, ocular tissues and buccal mucosa. In particular, my research lines concern: 1) set-up of ex-vivo models for the study of drug retention and permeation across biological barriers and, in particular, mucous membranes, ocular tissues and skin; 2) the preparation, characterization and evaluation of innovative drug delivery systems (microemulsions, nano and micro carriers, micelles, polymeric films); 3) technique for the enhancement of drug absorption across biological tissues (iontophoresis, nanocarriers, chemical enhancers, cell penetrating peptides).
