Prof. Quarantelli Afro graduated in Biological Sciences in 1975. From 1977 he was assistant professor in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Parma - Institute of Animal Nutrition -. In 1978 he was commissioned to teach "Feedstuff industries". Since the academic year 2002-2003 he taught "Feed and nutrition, and "nutrition and feed technology" for the Degree Course in Veterinary Medicine.
With effect from 1 March 2004 he was Professor of Animal Nutrition SSD AGR/18 at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Parma.
Since the academic year 2003-2004, he was President of the Degree Course in Technologies of Animal Production and Food Safety (Class 40). He is currently Chairman of the Course degree in Animal Science and Technology of Animal Production (class L 38) in which is the coordinator of the Curriculum "Bioenergy, Animal Production, Environment".
Since May 2004 he become Director of the Department of "ANIMAL PRODUCTION, VETERINARY BIOTECHNOLOGY, FOOD QUALITY AND SAFETY", a position that he still holds.
The scientific work is mainly oriented to the study of
TMR rations used in the production chain of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, the digestibility and nutritive value of forages used in the production chain of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, the influence of nutrition on reproductive and productive performance of dairy cattle the use of probiotics, enzymes and pesticides in animal feeding, the effects of oxidative stress on the performance of farm animals, oxidative processes and the presence of antioxidants in animal feed, effects of rations integration on vitamins and minerals status and health of livestock
With the above researches Prof. Quarantelli Afro has been able to publish no. 225 works.
