Valter Magliani, born in Ligonchio (Reggio Emilia, Italy) on December 25, 1952, received with honors his degree in Biological Sciences in 1977 at the University of Parma, Italy, and his post-graduate degree in Microbiology at the same University in 1981. Assistant Professor since 1978 at the Institute of Microbiology of the University of Parma, Senior Researcher in Microbiology since 1980 at the Faculty of Medicine of the same University, since 2001 he is Associate Professor of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at the same University, affiliated with the Department of Medicine and Surgery.
He was a teacher in several degree courses of Biological Sciences, Pharmacy and Medicine, and is currently Professor of Microbiology in degree courses in Medicine and of the School of Dental Medicine. He was a member of the teacher board of the Research Doctorate in Microbiology and Virology, Immunology and Comparative and Experimental Immunopathology, and currently he is a member of the teacher board of the Research Doctorate in Molecular Medicine.
He has spent significant periods of research in relevant Italian and foreign centers and has been involved in several research projects funded by national and international institutions in the fields of basic and medical Microbiology and Immunology. He has co-authored more than 150 scientific publications in national and international journals and book chapters, even for teaching; he has attended as invited speaker many national and international meetings. He acted as a reviewer for several international microbiological journals.
He is a member of national and international Microbiological Societies, including the Italian Society for Microbiology, the Italian Federation for Human and Animal Mycopathology, and the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology.

Bacteriology: anti-idiotypic recombinant and/or DNA vaccines against encapsulated bacteria, antibiotic resistance, susceptibility to antimicrobial peptides

Mycology: implications of the yeast killer phenomenon, susceptibility to antifungal drugs and peptides

Virology: antiviral activity of antibody-derived peptides

Immunology: idiotypic and transphyletic vaccines, anti-idiotypic antimicrobial therapy, monoclonal and recombinant microbicidal antibodies, antibody-derived peptides with antimicrobial, antiviral, immunomodulatory and antitumor activity
