In particular, he has followed the various stages of development of epiluminescence microscopy with both the simplified technique (dermoscopy) and digital (digital epiluminescence) specifically devoted to different areas: 1) validation diagnostic criteria 2) in vivo effects of solar radiation on melanocytic nevi 3) quality control on the clinico-pathological correlations (with the WHO Melanoma pathologists panel) 4) development of telematics applications 5) support to implementation of specific diagnostic algorithms for computerized evaluation of nevi and melanomas. (European Project ADAM - cluster EUTISM - M; Information Technology Society, Brussels) 6) integration of confocal laser microscopy (optical virtual biopsy) and 6) Training and e-learning.
He has worked and has in progress specific educational multimedia CD’s (also on the behalf of the WHO melanoma program). These multimedia projects were developed with Oncology Institute of Romagna (Istituto Tumori Romagna), Emilia-Romagna region, ASL Città di Milano, Italian Society for General Medicine (SIMG), Ticinese Dermatologic Association, European Academy of Dermatology (EADV) and American Academy of Dermatology.
