Research Activity
- Adjunct Investigator with the University of Parma unit of the PainOmics Project, a multinational research initiative sponsored by the European Union within the 7th Framework Programme. Our unit has enrolled ~1000 patients as of this writing. Participating units are based in the United States, Europe and Australia. My duties include participation in patient enrollment and the administration of the general database for clinical data.

- Unit Principal Investigator, Local Assessment of Ventilatory Management During General Anesthesia for Surgery (LAS VEGAS; NCT01601223) — a multinational study on the impact of mechanical ventilation during anesthesia for surgery which accrued data from 10,690 procedures throughout Europe.

- Experience in designing observational and randomized controlled trials in the field of anesthesiology.

- Invited speaker, since 2009, to every annual meeting of:
- Italian Society of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine (SIAARTI)
- Italian Chapter of the European Society of Regional Anesthesia (ESRA)

- Invited instructor to ESRA’s First Instructor Course in Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia (one of two members from Italy).
- Member of the Scientific Committee and session chairman for neuromodulation and interventional pain medicine sessions at Study In Multidisciplinary PAin Research (SIMPAR) annual meetings since 2015.
- Since 2005, I have been teaching and promoting the use of ultrasound guidance for regional anesthesia techniques, with over 30 workshops held throughout the country and at international symposia (European Society of Regional Anesthesia; New York School of Regional Anesthesia 2008 and 2009)

- Created and maintained a clinically-oriented database based on REDCap technology which was tested and validated with the prospective inclusion of 1110 patients over 8 months. The database features full clinical data for chronic pain patients and has been designed in a modular fashion, allowing both daily clinical usage and research activities.
- Side projects include:
- Set up and day-by-day administration of the department’s computer network
- Set up and administration of the department’s Google Apps deployment (120 active users to date) featuring email, mailing lists, mobile device security, documents access control.

- Full-time attending anesthesiologist with case manager credentials, operating chiefly in orthopedic anesthesia and surgical intensive care.

Assistant Professor (with tenure) in Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine, Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Parma, Italy

- Clinical, research and teaching tenured faculty (ricercatore universitario a tempo indeterminato) within the department.
- Lecturer of Pain Medicine at the University of Parma School of Medicine.
- Since 2013, has been with the Center for Pain Medicine, full-time.
- Has attained expert case manager accreditation with the university hospital (Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Parma).

Clinical duties
- Leading practitioner in regional anesthesia for orthopedic surgery
- From 2012, moved to chronic pain medicine practice
- Diagnosis and management of chronic pain diseases.
- Ultrasound- and fluoroscopy-guided nerve blocks and radiofrequency treatment.
- Implantation and management of spinal cord stimulators.
- In-house call physician for the surgical intensive care unit.
- Duties include overseeing residents and hands-on teaching of anesthesia and pain management techniques.

Teaching duties
- Since 2012, lecturer of Pain Medicine at the Medical School of the University of Parma
- Since 2013, faculty member and lecturer with the Residency Programs in Geriatrics, Orthopedics and Radiology at the University of Parma
- Coordinator of the Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine Residency Program at the University of Parma, overseeing daily activities of 50 residents over a 5-year course.

Director, Post-graduate Master Course in Pain Management and in Palliative Care. The courses have been activated every year thereafter.
