About

Currently I am Associate Professor at the Department of Food and Drug of the University of Parma, where I teach in the field of economics applied to the agri-food system.

My research activity focuses on the analysis of the economic aspects of the sustainability of agri-food systems, and on the analysis of consumer behavior of food and novel food products.

I believe that the work of teachers and researchers who, like us, work in this field, together with companies, institutions and civil society players, must necessarily consider the challenges that our society is facing in the transition towards more sustainable production and consumption models.

Curriculum Vitae

1999: Degree in Economics, University of Parma; thesis: “Geographical Information Systems (GIS) application in the study of socio-economic variables” 

2001: MSc in “Sustainable Development and Management of Agri-environmental Systems” at the University of Bologna “Alma Mater Studiorum”

March 2003: Technology Transfer and Implementation Project in collaboration with the University of Parma and the Province of Parma, subsidized by the Spinner Consortium (Emilia-Romagna Region) with an annual grant.

March 2006: Ph.D. degree in Agri-food Economics, University of Parma; dissertation: “Beef con-sumer behaviour and supply chain valorization strategies: a means-end chain application” discussed on 10 March 2006 at the University of Parma.

April 2006: Research Grant (post-doc) on the "Quality agro-food products and rural development" project of the Faculty of Agriculture. The contract for the period April 1, 2006 - March 31, 2008, has been renewed until March 31, 2009.

November 2008: Researcher at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Parma. It belongs to the Economics Department of the same University. As of July 2012, he is confirmed Resercher Fellow at the Department of Food Sciences of the University of Parma.

September 2013: member of the "Culture and Territory" Committee of the University of Parma for the organization of the UniForCity project, managed by the University of Parma and the Municipality of Parma, until January 2016.

February 2014: obtains the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) for Associate Professor in the competition sector 07/A1 (Agricultural Economics and Estimate).

March 2015: Associate Professor in Agricultural Economics at the Department of Food Science, now Department of Food and Drug, of the University of Parma.

January 2016: Technical-Scientific Referent in the "L2F: LEARN TO FOOD" Training Plan for the company CISITA Parma srl.

February 2016: member of the Scientific Committee and the technical-organizational Committee "Parma Creative City of Gastronomy UNESCO".

January 2017: delegate of the Rector of the University of Parma for the "Mastercampus - Fare Campus" project, until the end of October 2017.

March 2018: National Scientific Qualification (ASN) to the functions of Full Professor in the competition sector 07/A1 (Agricultural Economics and Estimate).

2019-2025: Deputy Chairman of the Board for the Degree Course in Gastronomic Science of the University of Parma.

June 2020: Associate Editor of the Board of the Bio-Based and Applied Economics journal

2023-2025: Deputy Chairman of the Board for the Degree Course in Quality and Procurement of Raw Materials for Agri-Food of the University of Parma.

January 2026: Chairman of the Board for the Degree Course in Gastronomic Science of the University of Parma.

He was a member of the Board of Directors at the Spin-Off of the University of Parma "ISAGRI S.r.l. - Initiatives for the development of Agribusiness", from the establishment in 2009 until the dissolution in December 2014.

He is also a member of the following scientific societies:

Research areas

Main fields of study and research are 1) the analysis of the economic aspects of the sustainability of agri-food systems, 2) the analysis of the consumer behavior of food and novel food, and 3) the analysis of the economic aspects of plant and animal GMOs. The most recent European projects I have participated in are the following: • Tender DG JRC (Directorate General Joint Research Centre) “Literature review on the efficiency of voluntary versus mandatory standards on consumers’ purchase choices of sustainable food” (Tender JRC/SVQ/2022/VLVP/0299, 2022-2023). • PROMEDLIFE, (Novel food products for the PROmotion of MEDi-terranean LIFEstyle and healthy diet, PRIMA EU programme, 2022-ongoing) with responsibility in conducting research activities regarding consumers perception of Mediterranean Diet (WP leader). • BALANCE, (Norwegian Aquaculture in the span between domestic social responsibility and international market demands, Research Council of Norway, 2019-2022) with responsibility in conducting research activities regarding consumers perception of Norwegian salmon (WP leader). • ALTERNATIVA ("Alternative protein sources in the European diets – integrating health risk-benefit and sustainability", 2021-ongoing) funded by the EFSA • STRENGTH2FOOD (2016-2022, Horizon 2020 - Strengthening European Food Chain Sustainability by Quality and Procurement Policy, https://www.strength2food.eu/), • PrimeFish (2015-2019, Horizon 2020, Developing Innovative Market Orientated Prediction Toolbox to Strengthen the Economic Sustainability and Competitiveness of European Seafood on Local and Global markets, no. 635761, http://www.primefish.eu/), • PreSto GMO ERA-net (2013-2015, 7th FP, Preparatory steps towards GMO research ERA-Net), as scientific responsible for the University of Parma. Moreover, I have specific assignments in relevant national projects (The National Recovery and Resilience Plan – NRRP): • ONFOODS (ON Foods - Research and innovation network on food and nutrition Sustainability, Safety and Security – Working ON Foods, NRRP programme, 2022-ongoing) with responsibility in conducting research activities regarding consumers’ acceptance of innovative and sustainable food products (Task leader). • AGRITECH (National Research Centre for Agricultural Technologies, NRRP programme, 2022-ongoing) with responsibility in conducting research activities regarding farmers intention to adopt new technologies (Task leader).

  • Favorire l’acquisto di pasta integrale all’Emporio Market Solidale di Parma

    La ricerca condotta all’interno dell’Emporio di Parma aveva come obiettivo quello di identificare le strategie più efficaci per favorire l’acquisto di pasta integrale, analizzando il comportamento dei consumatori in un contesto reale di spesa.   • Hybrid Forum 3 - I marchi di qualità motore dello sviluppo sostenibile per le aree montane

    Il 27 Novembre presso la scuola superiore IS Pacinotti Belmesseri, si è svolto il terzo Hybrid Forum che ha visto come protagonisti dell’assemblea, studenti, docenti ed esperti del settore agricolo e turistico. L’incontro si è sviluppati in due momenti: nella prima parte il Prof. Davide Menozzi ha presentato e spiegato la sua ricerca (parte del progetto Strength2Food che ha l’obiettivo di migliorare l’efficacia dei marchi di qualità) a proposito della conoscenza e consapevolezza dei marchi di qualità in vari stati europei. Nella seconda parte si è tenuto un incontro con tutti gli studenti delle classi, dove i produttori e gli esperti si sono presentati e hanno esposto i loro progetti. Inoltre sono stati spiegati in breve gli argomenti trattati e si è discusso ulteriormente delle potenzialità e dell’immagine di futuro nel territorio.

  • Hybrid Forum - Agricoltura e Alimentazione: quali ricetto contro lo spopolamento della Riserva MAB UNESCO Appennino Tosco-Emiliano

    L'hybrid forum è una iniziativa di public engagement che prevede, in una prima fase, la partecipazione di esperti sul tema e di pannellisti e, nella seconda parte, il coinvolgimento del pubblico che partecipa alla definizione di iniziative e strategie volte ad affrontare la tematica di interesse. In questo caso, l'HF aveva l'obiettivo di discutere il tema dello spopolamento delle aree montane (appennino Tosco-Emiliano) promuovendo soluzioni che coinvolgessero il sistema agro-alimentare. L'attività è parte della strategia di comunicazione e divulgazione del progetto Europeo (H2020) Strength2Food.
