Federica Bondioli is, since 2013, Associate Professor of Materials Science and Technology at the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Parma.

She has graduated in Chemistry in 1995 at the Università degli Studi di Modena. She has achieved the Doctorate in Chemical Sciences in 1999. From September 1st 2002, she was Researcher at the Faculty of Engineering in Modena and from December 21st 2006 is Professor of Materials Science and Technology at the Faculty of Engineering in Modena.

Research Activity
Her research activity has always regarded the functional and structural ceramic materials (mainly for building applications). The activity can be distinguished in:
a) product and process innovation in the traditional ceramic materials;
b) design, synthesis, characterisation and application of pigments to color ceramics and glassy matrix. This thematic has reached a noticeable interest for important industries within the traditional ceramic sector, and has pushed the research toward the synthesis and the optimized production of powders having high thermal and chemical stability, containing transition metals or rare earth ions, to be used as pigments to color ceramic bodies and enamels. In this sector the research is assembled on two principal managers:
1) improvement of the conventional industrial actual process in order to increase the production and to check the quality of the final product;
2) evaluation of the industrial applicability of new non conventional synthesis techniques.
c) innovative process to obtain inorganic nanopowders. In this field the research is mainly the synthesis of nanostructurated inorganic and metallic powders by using different non conventional methods. Chemical, thermal and mechanical properties are also faced. The aim is to optimize the production process according to the final destination of the product from both, the qualitative and the economic point of view.
Nanopowders have been used in different polymeric matrix in order to improve the mechanical properties and, some case, give new superficial functionality (superhydrophilic, hydrophobic, autocleaning, photocatalic…)

Author of more than 100 scientific publications on international and Italian journals, he has been, and is currently, coordinator of national and international scientific collaboration with feed back on the national and international industries.
She is referee in international journal such as Journal of the European Ceramic Society, Journal of Materials Science and Journal of the American Ceramic Society.
