Barbara Caselli is Assistant Professor (untenured) in Urban and Regional Planning at the Department of Engineering and Architecture, University of Parma, where she teaches “Open space planning and urban ecology” in the course Urban Planning Studio for the Sustainable City, and where she carries out research and applied research on urban regeneration processes and on urban accessibility, with particular attention to the spaces for pedestrian mobility.
She received her PhD (Curriculum Urban Studies) in March 2017 at the University of Parma (Italy). Her research centred on the study of shrinking processes in medium and small Italian municipalities, with a focus also on the land take phenomena.
Starting 2017, she has been a Research Fellow at the University of Parma (Department of Engineering and Architecture) where she carried out research activities firstly on the management of GIS relational databases to support the planning of post-earthquake reconstruction in small historic centres. Then, from 2018 to 2020, she has got a research grant to work on the project “Food Valley landscape planning and management”. From 2017 to 2020 she has also carried out teaching activities at the University of Parma within the courses “Urban planning and Design Studio” and “Territorial and environmental planning” of the MSc in Architecture and MSc in Sciences and technologies for environment and resources. She has also taught “Topographic analysis and territorial information systems - Construction of a GIS data model applied to the city” within the European Postgraduate Master Course in Urban Regeneration.
She is also the author of numerous scientific publications at the national and international level and has carried out scientific and organizational coordination activities in various seminars and conferences.
