Alessandro Pedrini received his M.S. in Industrial Chemistry from Parma University in 2012. He obtained his PhD in Materials Science from the same University in 2015, working on surfaces decoration with Single-Molecule Magnets and cavitand-based functional materials, under the supervision of Prof. E. Dalcanale. During his PhD tenure, he spent short periods in Prof. Pablo Ballester’s labs at Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) and a semester in the group of Prof. T.M. Swager at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). After his PhD, he was a post-doctoral fellow at University of Milan – Bicocca in Prof. Sozzani’s and Prof. Comotti’s group for two years. Currently he is Assistant Professor at the University of Parma. He published 34 peer reviews papers and a book chapter and he is currently involved in national and international research projects.

Lines of research

The research activity of Dr. Alessandro Pedrini is characterized by a supramolecular approach to functional materials, exploiting molecular recognition and self-assembly to impart them specific properties. The research topics include: - the design and synthesis of macrocyclic molecular receptors (e.g. cavitands), the control of their conformations and the study of their recognition properties both in solution and at solid/liquid and solid/gas interfaces; - the preparation of functional polymeric materials based on non-covalent interactions (e.g. H-bonds, host-guest) and on covalent dynamic bonds (CANs, vitrimers); - the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks and the insertion of macrocyclic receptors into hierarchically porous matrices for gas adsorption/separation and water treatment.
