Giulio Iacoli (b. Modena, 1974) holds a BA in Classical Literature at the University of Bologna, received a doctorate in Comparative Literature from the University of Cagliari, and since 2006 has been ricercatore (assistant professor) and subsequently Associate Professor at the University of Parma, Dipartimento di Italianistica, where he presently teaches courses in Comparative Literature, Literary Theory and Literary Sociology.
His main interests are cultural geography, gender studies, contemporary novel writing, comparisons between architecture, cinema and literature, and literary representations of school and schoolteachers. He has published several essays on contemporary novel writing (Buzzati, Calvino, D’Arzo, Perec, Queneau, DeLillo, Guibert) as well as on issues of gender and representation (space, landscape, territory and maps, the JFK assassination, Bergman, Susan Sontag, Almodóvar, the image of the city in Italian contemporary cinema), and is author of si monographs: Atlante delle derive. Geografie da un’Emilia postmoderna: Gianni Celati, Pier Vittorio Tondelli, Diabasis, 2002; La percezione narrativa dello spazio. He is among the directors of the journals «Between» (open access) and «Studi culturali» (Il Mulino), and is the Series Coordinator of "Sagittario. Discorsi di teoria e geografia letteraria" (Cesati).
