FRANCO MOSCONI [1962] - BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
[CURRENT ACADEMIC POSITION] 2002-TO DATE: He is Associate Professor of Industrial Economics at the University of Parma, where he teaches both at the Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Political Science; since the academic year 2003-2004 he has held the Jean Monnet Chair after winning the «EU Jean Monnet» competition. He also teaches European Industrial Policy at the Advanced Diploma and Master in European Studies (ADES) at the European College of Parma, and Media Economics at the University of Bologna «Ilaria Alpi» Graduate School of Journalism. The Rector of the University of Parma appointed him as a member of the Steering Committee for the Faculty of Political Science (May 2008).
[PREVIOUS ACADEMIC POSITIONS] He worked as a researcher at the ‘Centro di Economia e Politica Industriale’ at the University of Bologna (1988-1996). From 2000 to 2002 he was Adjunct Professor at the University of Ferrara and taught at the Forlì-based Faculty of Economics of the University of Bologna. He also taught in several post-graduate schools, including: ISPI, Milan; ALMA-Graduate School, Bologna; CISITA, Parma; CIS, Reggio Emilia and NUOVA DIDACTICA, Modena.
[EDUCATION] After graduating in Economics and Business at the University of Bologna (Laurea Magna cum laude 1987) supervised by Prof. Fabio Gobbo, he went on to specialise as a «Research Student in Economics» at the London School of Economics and Political Science (1993-‘94) under Professor John Sutton’s supervision.
[INSTITUTIONAL APPOINTMENTS] From 1996 (June) through 1998 (October), he served as an economic adviser to Italy’s President of the Council of Ministers, Professor Romano Prodi. From 1999 (May) to 2001 (May), he was initially a Member of the President's Cabinet and then a Member of the President’s Forward Studies Unit («Cellule de Perspective») at the European Commission in Brussels.
[AFFILIATIONS AND SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEES] In 2006-2007 the Rector of the University of Parma appointed him member of the Scientific Committee of the European College of Parma Foundation as well as of Monte Università Parma Editore. In 2006 he was called by UniCredit Banca, Bologna, to set up its Research Department, where he was then appointed Scientific Director from June 2006 to December 2008.
[EDITORIAL ACTIVITY] Since 2003 he has been member of the Editorial Board of «l’Industria – Rivista di Economia e Politica Industriale». Since 1997 he has regularly contributed leading articles to both national and local newspapers and magazines: he has about 200 editorials to his credit; is currently a columnist for the Corriere di Bologna, the new daily supplement of Corriere della Sera.
