Education & Training - Master degree in Biology (1990, University of Parma, Italy). Doctoral degree in Ecology (1994, University of Parma, Italy). Postdoctoral fellow (1994-1996, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain and Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, Belgium).

Teaching and Research – 1997-2014 Researcher at the University of Parma, Italy. Since October 2014 Associated Professor of Ecology at the University of Parma, Italy. Courses presently taught at the University of parma: "Ecology of Inland Waters" (6 credits) and “Management and conservation of inland water ecosystems” (3 credits) in the Master’s Degree course in Sciences and Technology for Environment and Resources and “Analysis of ecological systems” (6 credits) in the Bachelor Degree course in Natural and Environmental Sciences. Member of the board of the Doctorate in Evolutionary Biology and Ecology (Universities of Parma. Florence and Ferrara). President of the Master’s Degree course in Sciences and Technology for Environment and Resources.

Student tutoring - Supervisor or co-supervisor of 89 bachelor and master thesis projects and 11 PhD theses.

Member of the General Assembly of the LifeWatch Italia Joint Research Unit (2014-present). Convenor of the 17th International Symposium on Ostracoda (ISO17), Rome 23-26 July 2013.

2003: scientist in charge of the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Parma in the Project “Hydrobiological and ecological bases for conservation and management of the aquatic ecosystems of the Cento Laghi Regional Park” funded by the Regional Park of the Valleys of Cedra and Parma.
2004-2008: sub-coordinator and principal investigator in the EU Marie Curie Research Training Network “Sex to asex: a case study on transitions and coexistence between sexual and asexual reproduction” (SexAsex) (MRTN-CT-2004-512492).
