Luigi Allegri is Full Professor of Storia del teatro e dello spettacolo at University of Parma and Chairman of Dipartimento dei Beni Culturali e dello Spettacolo. From 2003/04 to 2009/10 he has been Chairman of the university Master of Scienze e tecniche dello spettacolo. From 2008/09 to 2009/10 he has been Chairman of the university Master of Organizzazione dello sport e dello spettacolo sportive (MOSS).
In 2006 he has been called as Professeur Invité at Université de Paris III, Sorbonne Nouvelle. He also taught in several universities and research institutes, like the Institut del Teatre of Barcellona and the Escuela Nacional de Teatro of Mexico City.
His studies concerns spectacular culture in contemporary age (theatre and cinema), methodological and theoretical matters about spectacle, the thaeatrical culture in medieval age and in XIX and XX century, the theory and history of actor. He's editor in chief, for the publishing house Laterza, of the collection "Nel laboratorio del teatro" and co-editor of the collection "Istituzioni dello spettacolo". He is member of the Advisory Board of the journal "Il castello di Elsinore".
He has been Chairman of the S.I.T.M. (Société Internationale pour l’étude du Theatre Médiéval) from 1992 to 1995 and Chairman of Consulta Universitaria Teatrale from 2004 to 2007. From 2004 to 2006 he coordinated a research group for a national research project. From 2007 to 2009 he has been the curator of three-year project Mantova Terra di Teatro.
Among his books: Ideologia e linguaggio nel cinema contemporaneo: Jean-Luc Godard, 1976; Per una storia del teatro come spettacolo: il teatro di burattini e di marionette, 1978; Teatro, spazio, societ' 1982; Teatro e spettacolo nel Medioevo, 1988; La drammaturgia da Diderot a Beckett, 1993; L'arte e il mestiere. L'attore teatrale dall'antichità ad oggi, 2005; L'artificio e l'emozione. L'attore nel teatro del Novecento, 2009; Prima lezione sul teatro, 2012. Among his editorships: (with Renato Di Benedetto), La Parma in festa. Spettacolarità e teatro nel Ducato di Parma nel Settecento, 1987; Dario Fo, Dialogo provocatorio sul comico, il tragico, la follia e la ragione, 1990; Elie Konigson, Lo spazio del teatro nel Medioevo, 1990.
