Luca Veltri received his Master degree in Telecommunication Engineering from University of Rome "La Sapienza", Italy, in 1994 and the Ph.D. degree in Information and Telecommunication Engineering from University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1999.

He is Associate Professor at University of Parma. He joined University of Parma in 2002 as Assistant Professor, and he has taught classes in network security and communication networks. From 2020 he is Director of the Parma’s Node of the Cybersecurity Lab of the CINI (Consorzio Interuniversitario Nazionale per l'Informatica). Since 2003 he has been the Coordinator of the Networking and Security Laboratory (NetSec Lab) and Security research Group at the University of Parma. From 2014 to 2017 he was also the director of the UniPR Co-Lab Center, an interdepartmental research center on learning technologies and digital publishing.

He has participated in several research projects funded by the European Commission (ACTS, FP6, FP7, and H2020 programs), by the European Space Agency (ESA), by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (PRIN program), by the Cisco University Research Program Fund and Silicon Valley Community Foundation, and by the Regione Emilia-Romagna (Piano Telematico Regionale program). He has been the scientific supervisor in several research contracts between the University of Parma and private companies, either Italian and international, in the fields of security and networking.

He has been also commissioned by tech companies for several R&D activities in VoIP, VoIP security, and lawful interception systems for 3G/4G networks.

From 1999 to 2002 he has been with CoRiTeL, a research institute funded by Ericsson Telecomunicazioni, where he leaded research projects in networking and multimedia communications.

His current research interests include Cyber Security, Applied Cryptography, Internet of Things, and Networking. He is co-author of more than 100 papers on international journals and conferences, and co-author of some IETF Internet drafts and book chapters. He is co-author of the book "Internet of Things: Architectures, Protocols and Standards".

He is the project leader and main author of the following software projects: mjSIP (an open-source IP telephony library including support for several signaling, media, and security protocols), NEMO (an open-source network emulator), and mjCoAP (an open-source library for IoT applications).
