Research activity on structural and dynamics studies of protein systems, mainly by means of computational techniques (Molecular Dynamics, Molecular Docking, protein Modelling) but also spectroscopic techniques (Fluorescence, Circular Dichroism).

Access as Visiting Scientist to the High Performance Computing facility SHARCNET (Shared Hierarchical Academic Research Computing Network: www.sharcnet.ca), of Compute/Calcul Canada (by 2009).

Born in Parma, Italy, on 02/10/1967.

Present position (from October 1st, 2014):
Associate Professor (permanent position) at the Department of Mathematical, Physical and Computer Sciences, University of Parma.

• Laurea (MSc) in Physics (Biophysical pathway), University of Parma, February 1992.
• Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biotechnologies, University of Bologna, June 1998.
• Researcher (permanent position) in the area of Applied Physics (SSD FIS/07) at the Department of Physics, University of Parma (July 2006 - September 2014).
• National Scientific Qualification to Associate Professor in the areas of both Applied Physics (02/B3) and General Biochemistry and Clinic Biochemistry (05/E1) (2012).

Main topics: 1) Structural and dynamics studies on Myelin Basic Protein (MBP) with relevance in demyelinating deseases like multiple sclerosis (in collaboration with Prof. George Harauz, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, University of Guelph, Canada). 2) Study of the effects of dehydration on Collagen structure and aggregation (in collaboration with Prof. Maria Grazia Bridelli, Dep. SMFI, UniPR) 3) Structural and dynamic study on WT and mutated LOV photoreceptors (in collaboration with Prof. Aba Losi, Dep. SMFI, UniPR). 4) Structural and dynamic study on Cellular Retinol Binding Proteins and their interaction with ligands (in collaboration with Prof. Rodolfo Berni, Dep. SCVSA, UniPR). 5) Study of the interaction of wild type and mutated forms of Survival of Motor Neuron (SMN) protein with proteins of the spliceosome: implication in the Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) disease. 6) Study of the interaction of urea derivatives with cytokinins and their adjuvant activity on cytokinin-driven physiological processes (in collaboration with Prof. Ada Ricci, Dep. SCVSA, UniPR).
