Present position (from October 1st, 2014):
Associate Professor (permanent position) at the Department of Mathematical, Physical and Computer Sciences, University of Parma.

Academic degrees
•    Laurea (MSc) in Physics (Biophysical pathway), University of Parma, February 1992.
•    Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biotechnologies, University of Bologna, June 1998.
•    Researcher (permanent position) in the area of Applied Physics (SSD FIS/07) at the Department of Physics, University of Parma (July 2006 - September 2014).
•    National Scientific Qualification to Associate Professor in the areas of both Applied Physics (02/B3) and General Biochemistry and Clinic Biochemistry (05/E1) (2012).

Past positions
1998 - 2000: post-doctoral fellow of the Istituto Nazionale per la Fisica della Materia 
2001 - 2002: research associate of the Istituto Nazionale per la Fisica della Materia

Research areas

Main topics: 
1) Study of the HFE protein, involved in the mechanism of iron absorption, and its disease-associated mutations linked to hereditary hemochromatosis.
2) Study of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) variants and their implications in diabetes (in collaboration with Prof. Elisa Araldi, Department of Medicine and Surgery).
3) Study of the photoactivation mechanisms of the photoreceptor OaPAC and the associated conformational transitions (in collaboration with the Institute de Biologie Structurale (IBS), Grenoble).
4) Study of the interaction between urea derivatives and plant cytokinins, and their adjuvant activity in cytokinin-regulated physiological processes (in collaboration with Prof. Ada Ricci, Department SCVSA, University of Parma).
5) Study of the Survival of Motor Neuron (SMN) protein and the effects of its disease-associated mutations linked to spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).
