SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

The research activity has been concentrated on the solution of Global Optimization problems, i.e., problems where the function to be optimized is characterised by the presence of (possibly many) local optimizers which are not global ones.
According to the different characteristics of the objective function and/or the feasible region of the problems to be solved, different solution techniques can be proposed, exploiting the particular structure of such problems. In what follows the different research subjects that have been considered are listed in chronological order.

1. Global optimization over one-dimensional intervals
2. Multistart-like algorithms
3. Concave optimization over polytopes
4. Packing problems
5. Simulated Annealing
6. Molecular conformation problems
7. D.C. (Difference-of-Convex) decompositions
8. Landscape analysis
9. Max-Clique problems
10. Convex underestimators and domain reduction
