I was born and educated in Padua, where I took my degree (summa cum laude) in Psychology, 1977. After some years as a research assistant, I obtained a research grant from CNR, at the University of Parma, where I have been working since.
I am now Associate Professor in Psychology at the Department of Neuroscience of the University of Parma.
In April-May 1986, I was visiting researcher at the Psychology Department of the University of St. Andrews (Scotland); in June-December 1988, and in July-September 1995, I was visiting researcher at the Department of Psychology of the University of Western Australia, Perth (Australia). In October 2005, I taught at the University of Granada (Spain), as part of the Socrates program (TS activity, Teaching Staff Mobility).
In January 2008, I was member of the committee for a European PhD at the Department of Psicologia Experimental y Fisiologia del Comportamiento of the University of Granada. For the same Department I was examiner for other European PhD theses in June 2004 and in December 2008. In June 2015, I was appointed external examiner for the PhD exam at the University of Edinburgh (College of Humanities and Social Science) which took place in October 2015.
I am a Member of the Sezione di Neuropsicologia of the Società Italiana di Neurologia since 1984; Member of the European Brain and Behaviour Society since 1986; Member of the Società Italiana di Psicologia (today AIP) since 1990; Member of the Roll of Italian Psychologists since 1993; and since 1997, a Full Member of ESCOP (European Society for Cognitive Psychology).
I am currently teaching a variety of Psychological topics in several different courses at the Department of Neuroscience; of Clinical and Experimental Medicine; and of Biomedical, Biotechnological and Translational Sciences. I am also tutor in the Parma PhD program in Psychology.
My research interests are mainly on the relations between the recruitment of the motor system and the processing of language material and on the interactions between perception, attention and action with special emphasis on the role of the pragmatic features of visually presented objects. I study these topics by means of behavioral and neurophysiological measures.
I am the author of about one hundred publications, among them about 50 in international journals, with a total number of about 3144 citations and an H-index of 18 for Web of Science, and about 5020 citations with an H-index of 23 for Google Scholar.
I was scientific coordinator of the Parma Research Unit of the project PRIN 2006 “The visuo-motor compatibility affects the perception and the representation of space and objects”; of the project PRIN 2008 “To do, to observe and to do together: the influence of the other on cognition and action”; and of the European project “ROSSI, Emergence of communication in RObots through Sensorimotor and Social Interaction” (FP7-ICT-2007-1).
