molecular biology (polymerase chain reaction, microallelotyping analysis, methylation-specific PCR)

Main research lines
Characterization of gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) neuroendocrine cells and related neoplasms by conventional and ultrastructural morphology and by molecular biology, with particular interest to gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors and their pre-cancerous lesions, and to pancreatic islet cell tumors;

Analysis of genetic alterations of neuroendocrine neoplasms of the lung, to study tumor suppressor or DNA repair genes for loss of heterozygosity and/or hypermethylation of their promoter;

Characterization of neoplasms of the female genital tract by microsatellite analysis

Scientific pubblications
79 scientific publications in “peer-reviewed” international journals, 15 as first author, H-index: 23 (ISI);
more than 70 posters and oral communications in international scientific congresses

Health service
2001 - present: Expert Case Manager, U.O. Pathologic Anatomy, Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Parma

Application of electron microscopy techniques to tumoral / non tumoral diagnosis, with special interest to renal, muscle and neuroendocrine pathology.

Setting up and application of molecular methods ancillary to histopathologic diagnosis: polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of DNA extracted from routinely FFPE tissues, in the field of:
identification of DNA from infective agents;
evalution of clonality of lymphoproliferative disorders;
analysis of microsatellite instability in colorectal cancer;
evaluation of methylation status of the MGMT gene promoter in glioblastomas.
