Giulio Colavolpe is Full professor of Telecommunications.

Born in Cosenza, Italy, on August 14, 1969.

EDUCATION
- Apr. 1994: Master degree in Telecommunications Engineering (cum laude) from the University of Pisa, Italy;
- Jun. 2, 1998: Ph.D. degree in Information Technology from the University of Parma, Italy.

RESEARCH INTERESTS AND ACTIVITIES
- Design of digital communication systems, adaptive signal processing, iterative detection techniques for channels with memory, channel coding, and information theory. From 2003, Leader of the SPADiC (Signal Processing for Advanced Digital Communications) Group (http://www.spadic.unipr.it) at the University of Parma. This Group has scientific collaborations with: University of Southern California, Los Angeles, U.S.A., University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, U.S.A., Télécom Bretagne, Brest, France, Chalmers University, Sweden, Lund University, Sweden, Scuola Superiore S. Anna, Pisa, Italy, National Laboratory of Photonic Networks, CNIT, Pisa, Italy, Politecnico di Torino, Italy, University of Bologna, Italy, Technische Univrsitat Berlin, Germany, the European Space Agency (ESA), the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR), Germany.

EXPERIENCE AS A PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
He has been the Principal Investigator of many research projects funded by the European Space Agency (ESA-ESTEC), the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR), the European Community and multinational companies in the telecommunications sector.

TEACHING
- Teacher of the following courses, all at the University of Parma: "Digital Communications" (2002-present), "Estimation and Detection Theory" (2004-2009), "Communications and Signal Processing" (2002-2015), "Digital Signal Processing" (2001-2004), "Probability, Statistics, Stochastic Processes, and Signal Theory" (1998-2001), "Communication systems" (2023-present), "Probabilistic methods for engineering" (2024-present). He also taught a few short courses for Ph.D. students at European Universities.

- In the past, Advisor of 13 Ph.D. Students and more than 90 Master's Students at the University of Parma.
- At present, Advisor of one Ph.D. Student at the University of Parma.

PUBLICATIONS AND OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS
He is coauthor of the book "Detection Algorithms for Wireless Communications", (John Wiley & Sons, August 2004, ISBN: 0-470-85828-1) and of the book "Wireless Communications: Algorithmic Techniques", (John Wiley & Sons. August 2013. ISBN: 0-470-51239-3), of more than 100 papers in leading international journals (9 invited), of more than 150 papers in international conference proceedings (12 invited), and 22 industrial patents. He also delivered many invited lectures and seminars at Universities and research centers in Europe and USA and invited tutorials at international conferences. He received the best paper award at the 13th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM'05), Split, Croatia, September 2005, the best paper award for Optical Networks and Systems at the IEEE International Conference on Communcations (ICC 2008), Beijing, China, May 2008, and the best paper award at the 5th Advanced Satellite Mobile Systems Conference and 11th International Workshop on Signal Processing for Space Communications (ASMS&SPSC 2010), Cagliari, Italy, September 2010.
