Antonella Bachiorri is coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory of Education for Sustainability  (CIREA) at  the Department of Chemistry, Life Sciences and Environmental Sustainability of the University of Parma.

She teaches at university level and provides teacher education and professional development in the fields of science education (Biology) and education for sustainability.

Adjunct Professor (contract lecturer): “Environmental Education for Sustainability”, within the initial teacher education pathways for lower and upper secondary school teachers (PF60).

Adjunct Professor (contract lecturer): “Environmental Education” (BSc in Environmental Sciences, University of Parma).
Instructor in qualifying and initial teacher education programmes: TFA (a.y. 2012/2013 and 2014/2015) and PAS (a.y. 2013/2014), class A059.
Development of multimedia materials for blended learning within the FIT programme – “Biology Teaching and Environmental Education” (a.y. 2017/2018).

 

Additional activities:

  • Subject expert (Cultore della materia) in Environmental Education at the University of Parma.

  • Participation in scientific committees and editorial boards of journals and conferences (including, among others, the World Environmental Education Congresses).

  • Design and participation in national and international projects and initiatives in sustainability education, with coordination and methodological support roles.

  • Scientific and outreach publications: articles in specialised journals, book chapters, and materials for teachers and schools.

  • Scientific/methodological consultancy and support for co-design with schools and institutions; supervision of theses (Bachelor’s and Master’s) and applied research pathways.

Lines of research

She coordinates and develops research activities in the field of Education for Sustainability, with a particular focus on school and higher-education contexts and on teacher education processes. Her work integrates theoretical and applied research (the design, implementation and evaluation of educational programmes), in dialogue with the most recent international and national debates in education for sustainability Her main research lines and topics of interest include: - sustainability competences (reference frameworks, learning progressions, and observation/assessment tools); - pre-service and in-service teacher education in education for sustainability: teaching models, active methodologies, and reflective practices; - curriculum development and interdisciplinary instructional design, also from a whole-school approach perspective; - participatory and inquiry-based methods, outdoor education and field work; - non-formal and community-based education: science communication, educational projects for citizens, and support for sustainable lifestyles; - analysis and enhancement of local/regional networks (e.g., regional systems for education for sustainability) and collaboration among universities, schools and stakeholders.

Different types of initiatives are integrated into the research activity to develop strong relationships and cooperations aimed at a wide involvement of  several stakeholders of the local community.  Some examples of these are: communication and information activities and/or projects for citizens, seminars, laboratories and activities on sustainable lifestyles, as well as conferences and public events.
