Professor Marco Genchi obtained his degree in Veterinary Medicine and a Specialization Diploma from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Milan, and a PhD from the University of Pavia. He is Professor of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases of Animals at the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences, University of Parma.

His main research interests focus on the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of vector-borne parasitic diseases, with particular emphasis on Dirofilaria immitis and D. repens, as well as parasitic zoonoses such as Toxoplasma gondii and Echinococcus spp.

Professor Genchi is a member of the board, serving as Vice President, and is among the founding members of the European Society of Dirofilariosis and Angiostrongylosis (ESDA). He has contributed to the drafting of the Society’s guidelines and tutorials. He is also a board member, serving as Treasurer, of ESCCAP Italia (European Scientific Counsel Companion Animal Parasites). In addition, he is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Veterinary Parasitology: Regional Studies and Reports.

Professor Genchi collaborates with major pharmaceutical companies in the field of Veterinary Medicine and with contract research organizations (CROs) as an investigator and study leader in clinical, efficacy, prevention, case–control, and experimental studies, as well as in field and laboratory trials of antiparasitic products for veterinary use. From 2012 to 2021, he collaborated with the World Health Organization (WHO), Preventive Chemotherapy and Transmission Control (PCT), Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD), in Geneva, within a project that led to the corrected and updated re-edition of the Bench Aids for the Diagnosis of Intestinal Parasites. He subsequently served as lead author and coordinator for the development of the new Bench Aids for the Diagnosis of Intestinal Parasites, translated into Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Russian.

Professor Genchi is the author of more than 120 publications in national and international journals, as well as books and book chapters, and has served as a speaker at national and international congresses and courses.
