Her main research interest is to study and characterize the process of bone/periodontal regeneration in healthy and systemically compromised conditions, with a particular interest towards omics technologies. She is also interested in the effect of systemic diseases on the oral cavity. Her research activity has been recognized with a number of scientific awards, including the Goldman award for clinical research by SIdP, the L’Oréal-UNESCO for women in science award and the IADR Women in Science Distinguished Research Award. In 2021 she received the BSODR President’s Prize and the second prize in the IADR Joseph Lister’s award for new investigators. She took part in the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) consensus conferences that led to the development of the treatment guidelines for periodontal and peri-implant diseases and she was involved in the adolopment process promoted by the British Society of Periodontology to adapt such guidelines to the UK system. She currently serves as an officer in the EFP Scientific Affairs Committee and is in the Editorial Board of the 3 main journals in the field of Periodontology (Journal of Clinical Periodontology, Journal of Periodontology, Journal of Periodontal Research).
