Research:
His research activities mainly concern equipment maintenance, reliability, production planning, logistics and food safety. He has published 28 papers characterised by follow collocation:
14 papers (include paper in press) in international journal;
8 papers (include paper in press) presents in international conferences proceeding;

6 papers presents in national conferences proceeding.
Moreover, 3 papers are actually submitted on referees control for possible publication on international journal and/or international conferences.

The main tool use from Massimo Bertolini in his research activities are:
- statistics and probability;
- numerical analysis;
- artificial intelligence (such as: fuzzy logic and Petri Nets);
- the linear programming (comprised the goal programming techniques);
- multi attribute techniques, such as Analytic Hierarchy Process, Grey Theory, Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution, compromise ranking method;
- simulations.
