Giorgio Conti was born in Soragna, Parma, on February 19,1948. He received his degree with honors in Biological Sciences at the University of Bologna in 1972. From 1974 to 1985 he was assistant Professor and from 1985 to 1989 he was associate Professor at the Institute of Microbiology of the University of Parma; from 1989 until now he is full associate Professor, at the Microbiology Section of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and teacher of General Microbiology and Virology at the Biological Science course of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Parma. He is currently teaching Microbiology and Virology for the different courses of first and second,master, degrees at the Faculty of Sciences. He was teaching Clinical Microbiology in the Microbiology and Virology Master Shool of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Parma. During his scientific career he has attended a long period of research at the Division of Virology in the Department of Pathology ,University of Cambridge, working on the molecular biology and epidemiology of the animal viruses , notably on the different modes of replication and on the aspect of cellular / viral interaction during the multiplicative cycle of pathogenic human and avian Type A Orthomyxoviruses. He has authored more than 100 publications both in national and international journals and book of world wide diffusion.He has authored an international patent regardind the use of an antiviral compound, furthermore he is currently member of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID)and member of the European Society for Virplogy (ESV), other than member of Italian Society for Virology (SIV).
