Stefano A. Gandolfi was born on October 2nd, 1959, Parma, Italy;

Education:
1978 School leaving examination (Liceo Classico "Romagnosi") with full marks 60/60.;
1984 M.D. Degree (summa cum laude) at the School of Medicine, University of Parma, Italy;
1988 Degree in Ophthalmology at the School of Ophthalmology, Univ. Parma, Italy Academic Career:
1979-84 Pre-doctoral research fellow at the Institute of Pathology, Univ. Parma, Italy
1984-88 Resident in Ophthalmology at the School of Ophthalmology, Univ. Parma, Italy;
1985-92 Part time Research fellow at the School of Biology, University of East Anglia, Norwich, U.K. (Prof. George Duncan);
1987 Visiting fellow at the Glaucoma Service of the Universitat Augenklinik in Freiburg, Germany (Prof. Franz Grehn)
1989 Post-doctoral research fellow at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University of Parma, Italy, supported by a research Grant from "Fondazione Bietti", Rome Italy;
1990-1999 Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Glaucoma Service at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University of Parma, Parma Italy;
2000 Appointed as Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Parma.
2003 appointed as Full Professor and Chairman at the University Eye Clinic of Parma.

Awards and fellowships:
1977 Lions prize for the best score among the High Schools of Parma in the years 1974-77;
1985-90 6 short term fellowships from EEC (EURAGE, concerted action on ageing);
1986 Prize from the Cancer Studies Society ("Lega lotta contro tumori");
1988 International award (US$ 20,000) from „Fondazione G. Bietti per l´Oftalmologia", Rome, Italy ;
1992 Annual Prize from the Italian Ophthalmological Society (SOI) awarding the best paper on clinical research presented during the year;
1996 Nomination for candidate to the Chibret International Award, Paris;
1996 3rd award from European Glaucoma Society, Paris;
2000 and 2004 1st Award from the European Glaucoma Society, London
2012: Awarded with the "Lowe medal" by tha ANZGIG, Sydney

since 2003 he acts as delegate of the EGS at the World Glaucoma Association (formerly AIGS)
since February 2008, member elected of the Glaucoma Research Society.
since 2009, member of the Scientific Commitee of the EGS.
Co-editor of the IIIrd edition of the European Glaucoma Society Guidelines (Dec. 2008)
