➢ National and international collaborations and networks
Extensive international and interdisciplinary research network involving leading academic institutions, research centers, and industrial partners, supporting high-impact research in analytical chemistry, materials science, environmental monitoring and food quality/safety. Key international collaborations include: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) for the development of novel materials for sample treatment, Stockholm University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology (SE) for innovative configurations in ambient mass spectrometry, the Center for Cooperative Research in Biosciences (ES) for chemometrics approaches, Klepeida University (LT) for the detection of environmental pollutants, and Vanderbilt University (USA) for the implementation of ion mobility-mass spectrometry in tissue imaging. Additional collaborations with Goethe University Frankfurt (DE) and University of Milano Bicocca (IT) focus on the integration of NMR and HRMS metabolomic data through data fusion approaches; the collaboration with the University of Copenhagen (DK) addresses the untargeted analysis of leachable compounds from plastics integrating multi-chromatographic platforms coupled to HRMS.
At the national level, ongoing collaborations with universities, research centers, and industry focus on advanced analytical methods and innovative materials for trace analysis in complex matrices. A key research field is dedicated to omics, particularly metabolomics, integrating HRMS platforms with machine learning approaches. In forensic omics applied to ancient remains, an ongoing collaboration with Eurac Research focuses on the UHPLC-HRMS analysis of dental calculus to investigate the effect of the environment and lifestyle on metabolome of populations from the Middle Ages across the Alpine region. The study follows a previous investigation in collaboration with the Department of Medicine and Surgery of Parma University enabling the identification of over 200 metabolites in historical remains.
