After getting a degree in Medieval History from the State University of Milan in 1999 under the supervision of Giorgio Chittolini, I won a three-year grant for a doctoral course in Historical Studies at the University of Trent, where I completed a DPhil thesis on Parma in the 15th century under the supervision of Gian Maria Varanini. Subsequently, I was awarded The Dombrowski Fellowship in History at Villa I Tatti – The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, and from March 2006 to February 2010 I have been a Research Fellow in History at the State University of Milan. In 2010 I was appointed lecturer at Parma, where I am Associate Professor of Medieval History since December 2016. I am a member of the editorial board of the review "Società e storia" and of the series "Lombardia nel Rinascimento." During the academic year 2016/17 I have been a Visiting Fellow at All Souls College, Oxford. I am the head of the Research Unit in Parma for the PRIN 2020 project Nomina. Forenames in Late Medieval Italy: A New Approach to Social and Political History. I am also the scientific director of the Giorgio Chittolini Library Fund, established at the Historical Archive of the University of Parma in 2023.
