Riccardo Pecori was born in Cremona (CR), Italy.
He received, from the University of Parma, the "Laurea Specialistica" degree (Master's degree) in Telecommunications Engineering "cum laude", discussing a thesis with title "Development of a Statistical Technique for Recognizing Applications over IP Networks". 
He got his Ph.D. from the Information Engineering Department of the University of Parma and became adjunct professor at eCampus University for the "Telecommunications Networks" courses in 2012. In May 2015 he became Assistant Professor of Computer Science at eCampus University, where he taught "Computer and Network Security" and "Internet of Things". From August 2019 to January 2022 he has been Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering at University of Sannio, in Benevento, Italy, teaching "Digital Design". Since February 2022 till April 2022 he has been senior Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, teaching "Algorithms and Data Structures". Since May 2022 till September 2022 he has been Associate Professor in Computer Engineering at Universitas Mercatorum, teaching "Social Media and Digital Communications". Since October 2022 he came back to eCampus University as Associate Professor in Computer Engineering where he teaches "Computer Security" and "Network Security". Since June 2022 to March 2025 he was also part-time researcher in Informatics at the Institute for Materials for Electronics and Magnetism of the National Council for Research in Parma, where he is now assocociate researcher. 

He has been editor of “Future Generation Computer Systems” since 2017 to 2022 and he is now associate editor of Elsevier "SoftwareX" since September 2019 and of Springer "Evolving Systems" since September 2024.

Prof. Pecori has been co-organizer and co-chair of the special session on "Communication, Security and Data Analysis in the Social Internet of Things" at 14th IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS 2017), 28-31 August, Bologna, Italy. He has been general co-chair and and program co-chair of the special session on “Artificial Intelligence and Security (AISE)” at World Congress on Computational Intelligence (WCCI 2020), July 2020, Glasgow, Scotland, and at International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN 2021), July 2021, Shenzhen, China. He has been general co-chair and program co-chair of the special session “Artificial Intelligence for Cyber Security of IoT Systems" (AICSIoT) at World Congress on Computational Intelligence (WCCI 2022), July 2022, Padua, Italy.

Moreover, prof. Pecori has been program co-chair of WIVACE 2018, International Workshop on Artificial Life and Evolutionary Computation, 10-12 September 2018, Parma, Italy, program co-chair of HELMeTO 2019, International Conference in Higher Education Learning Methodologies and Technologies Online, being also publication co-chair for the 2019, 2020 and 2021 editions, and general co-chair for the 2024 edition.

Prof. Pecori has been leading organizer, general and program co-chair of 1st IEEE Workshop on Deep Learning for and in Pervasive Computing, co-located with PerCom 2021, Kassel, Germany, March 2021, and organizer, general, and program co-chair of PeRConAI Workshop on Pervasive and Resource-Constrained
Artificial Intelligence (union of PeRConML and PerDL Workshops), co-located with PerCom 2022, Pisa, Italy, March 2022, with PerCom2023, Atlanta, USA, March 2023, with PerCom2024, Biarritz, France, March 2024, and with PerCom 2025, Whashinghton, USA, March 2025.

He is author or coauthor of more than 70 papers published in international conferences and journals regarding network security, security in Internet of Things, social and educational Big Data, machine and deep learning, as well as the identification of relevant sets in complex systems.
