Linee di ricerca

Research activity in the Stress Physiology Lab is mainly focused on the biological substrates of depression/anxiety and autonomic/cardiovascular dysfunction comorbidity. This topic is approached via preclinical research on animal models of depression (based on adverse social conditions) and anxiety (based on lines selectively bred). Proendocannabinoid pharmacological treatment (FAAH inhibition) is tested to verify its pevention/reversal potential over behavioral and physiological symptoms of anxiety/depression as well as over autonomic/cardiovascular dysfunction. The final goal is to implement new molecules that allow to successfully treat this comorbidity. Part of the lab research activity is also devoted to the implementation and use of a kit of parameters (neuroendocrine, autonomic, psychological and behavioral) that allows to evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacological stress relief interventions in different human populations.
